  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Girma joined the Blues from San Diego Wave earlier this year, becoming the first player in the women's game to cost over $1m. However, fans have not been able to see her in WSL just yet due to a calf injury. That is now set to change as Chelsea take on Brighton and will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the WSL table.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Girma is understood to have taken the transfer record off Racheal Kundananji, who left Real Madrid for Bay FC for just under $1m last year. Keira Walsh's move to Chelsea from Barcelona in January was also the fourth-highest fee ever at over £550k.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Aged just 24, Girma has already played 44 matches for the US women's team, scoring twice. She featured heavily at the 2023 World Cup and played every minute as USA won Olympic gold in Paris last summer.
