    WHAT HAPPENED?

Vinicius scored twice in the opening ten minutes in the showpiece event at Al-Awwal Stadium on Sunday to stun Barcelona, copying Cristiano Ronaldo's famous 'Siuuu' celebration in the process, and completed his hat-trick via the penalty spot to ensure Real went in at half-time 3-1 up. Rodrygo rounded off a comprehensive victory for Carlo Ancelotti's men in the second half, and Barca's misery was compounded when Ronald Araujo was sent off after picking up a second yellow.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tempers flared among both sets of players after Araujo's dismissal, and Vinicius was spotted taunting the Barcelona bench by reminding them of the scoreline. Rodrygo tried to usher his Brazilian team-mate away, while Fermin Lopez was seen shoving the Real attacker out of frustration.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Xavi has lost four El Clasico games against Real Madrid in less than a year, the first Barca manager to record the unwanted feat in 70 years. His opposite number Ancelotti, meanwhile, has now won 29 of his 33 knockout games in charge at Real, and has delivered a grand total of seven trophies since returning to the club in 2021.
